Harold was born in 1892 in Ilkeston amd was the son of Arthur a brewer and waiter and Mary Ann Wharmby née Page of 29 Querneby Road Mapperley Nottingham and the brother of Dorothy and Florence Wharmby . Arthur was born in 1862 Mary Ann Page was born in 1867 both were born in Nottingham, they were married in 1881 at Radford, Nottingham, they went on to have 3 children. In the 1911 census the family are living at the 'school house' Querneby Road, Mapperley, Nottingham , Arthur 49 yrs is a brewer and waiter he is living with his wife Mary Ann 44 yrs Harold is 19 years of age, single and a draughtsman. and Dorothy 4 yrs of age.
In 1911 he was a draughtsman.

24th Bn Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment)
Private Harold Arthur Wharmby enlisted in Nottingham and served with the Royal Fusiliers 24th battalion London Regiment. His medal index card shows he first entered a theatre of war in France on 15th November 1915 . He died of wounds received on 14th November 1916 and is buried in Couin British Cemetery, Pas De Calais, France grave reference VI A 7
