Charles was born in 1898 at Calverton and was the son of Alfred a farm labourer and Hannah Rebecca Fox née Beardall of 89 Mani Street, Calverton His father Alfred was born in 1856 at Calverton and his mother Hannah Rebecca Beardall was born in 1859 also at Calverton, they were married in 1881 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have 3 children, 1 sadly died in infancy or early childhood, their other surviving child was a daughter Lena born in 1882. In the 1911 census the family are shown living on a farm at 89 Main St, Calverton and are shown as Alfred 55 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Hannah 52 yrs and their son Charles Alfred 13 yrs working on a farm.

Private Charles Alfred Fox enlisted in Arnold and initially served with the service number 204706 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment but later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. HeE was killed in action in France on 28th March 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras memorial, France
