He was the son of George and Eliza Hallam of 16 Chapel Street Forest Side Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire. He was the brother of George (killed in action 18/9/1918), James William, Eliza Jane, Hilda and Arthur Hallam.
He worked in a brickyard.
