Enoch was the only child of Henry and Lizzie (also Elizabeth) Winfield (née Wardle).
His father, Henry, was the son of Enoch and Catherine Winfield (née Wardle), and was born in Nottingham in 1874 (J/A/S Nottingham-Wardle). Enoch snr. was born in Nottingham in about 1853 and Catherine was born in Cole Orton, Leicestershire, in about 1855. Enoch and Catherine were married at St Ann's parish church, Nottingham, on 23 March 1873.
His mother Lizzie Wardle was born in Cole Orton, Leicestershire, birth registered 1876 (J/F/M Ashby de la Zouch Leics).
Henry and Lizzie were probably married in 1896 (J/A/S Newark Notts - Henry Winfield/Lizzie Wardle). Their son Enoch was born on 28 October 1897 and baptised on 5 December 1897 at St Ann's parish church, Nottingham.
In 1897 when Enoch was baptised the family was living at 12 Howard Street, Nottingham.
However, by 1901 Henry (28), a labourer for Nottingham Corporation, Lizzie (24) and Enoch (3) were living with Henry's parents at 16 Loverseed Terrace, Nottingham. Enoch snr. (49) was also a corporation labourer.
Henry, Lizzie and their son Enoch were living at 12 Livingstone Street, Nottingham, by 1911. Also in the household on the night of the census were Lizzie's sister-in-law, Maria Mabel Wardle (née Earp), who had married William Wardle in 1903, and Maria's daughter Fanny Wardle (5 b. 1905).
The CWGC record gives Henry and Lizzie's address as 21 Lotus Street, St. Ann's Well Road, Nottingham.
Lizzie probably died in 1937 (J/A/S Nottingham), burial 3 August 1937.
It seems likely that Henry married Amy M Wasley in 1938 (A/M/J Nottingham). The 1939 England & Wales Register has a record of a Henry Winfield (b. 13 August 1874), a retired corporation road sweeper, and his wife Amy M Winfield (b. 2 August 1902), living at 'Sandiacre', Roman Bank, Spilsby, Lincolnshire. However, there is also a Probate record for Henry Winfield of 21 Lotus Street, who died on 4 March 1942; his widow, Amy Marian Winfield, was his executor.
