He was the son of Tom Taylor Whitlock and Edith Emmeline Whitlock of 'Bank House' Sherwood Rise Nottingham. He was the younger half brother of E F Whitlock and C B Whitlock. E F killed at Serre 1st July 1916, C B Whitlock , Second Lieutenant Machine Gun Corps, wounded 27th April 1916.

He was killed near Armentieres whilst attached from 30th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers. He was a machine gun officer.
Nottingham Guardian, Tuesday 29th August 1916 Mr and Mrs T T Whitlock of Sherwood Rise, Nottingham were notified yesterday that their third son, Lieutenant T O Whitlock was killed in action on 24th August. He was 20, educated at West Bridgford Modern School and Nottingham High School. He joined the University OTC under Captain Trotman, obtaining a commission in the Northumberland Fusiliers last October. “Much sympathy will be felt with Mr and Mrs Whitlock whose second son was killed in action on July 1st and whose eldest son was wounded in April.”
