George Watkinson was born in 1896 and was the son of Isaac a hosiery hand and Jane Watkinson née Kingswood of 7 Shaftsbury Terrace, Waterway Street, Meadows, Nottingham. His father Isaac was born in 1861 at Nottingham and his mother Jane Kingswood was born in 1862 at Ludford, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration District, they went on to have 6 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their other son was Ernest Albert b1889 Nottingham, they went on to adopt a daughter Florence Minions born 1902 in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family were living at 7 Shaftsbury Terrace, Waterway Street, Meadows, Nottingham and are shown as Isaac 50 yrs a hosiery hand, he is living with his wife Jane 49yrs and their children, Ernest Albert 21 yrs a railway porter and George 15 yrs a lace maker, also shown is Florence Minions 9 yrs their adopted daughter.
George is shown as a lace maker in the 1911 census

13th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps
Rifleman George Watkinson was born in Sneinton and enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 13th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He landed in France on 30th July 1915 and was killed in action on 29th June 1916 he is buried Berles-Au-Bois Churchyard Extension (grave ref H.6)
Included on Castle Gate Congregational Church ROH printed January 1917: Rifleman G Watkinson, KRR (Nottinghamshire Archives ref DD2325/10) His brother Pte. Ernest Albert Watkinson, 14th (Pioneer) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, was killed in action on 24th September 1917. He is buried in The Huts Cemetery, Belgium.
