Harry Brown was born in 1896 at Hucknall and was the son of Henry a coal miner stallman and Margaret Ann Brown née Saunders of 8, Wellgate Mount, Rotherham. His father Henry was born in 1867 at Basford, his mother Mary Ann Saunders was born in 1867 at Nuneaton, Warwickshire, they were married in 1888 at Shipton on Stour, then went on to have 8 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their children were, George b1888, Samuel b1891 Hucknall, Harry b1896 Hucknall and William Bernard b1897 at Bulwell. In the 1911 census the family are living at Portland Street, Pleasley Hill, Mansfield and are shown as Henry 44 yrs a coal miner stall man, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 44 yrs and their children, Harry 15 yrs a coal miner, William Bernard 14 yrs a coal miner, also living at the home was Joseph Saunders 74 yrs a widow labourer and described as father and also Daisy Winifred Willworth 17 yrs an adopted daughter.
He was a coal miner.

1st Bn Coldstream Guards
Lance Corporal Harry Brown enlisted at Worksop whilst residing at Rotherham, he served with the 1st battalion Coldstream Guards and was killed in action on 8th November 1918, he is buried at La Longueville Communal Cemetery, France.
