Person Details
Elmton near Creswell, Derbyshire
William Bennett was born in Elmton Derbyshire near Creswell, and registered at Worksop in 1877. His father was Frank Bennett who had married Emma Marsh in Worksop in 1876. William was their first child and shortly after his birth at Elmton, moved to 113 Potter Street, Worksop where Frank worked as a miner. By 1891, the family had increased and now were living at 65 Abbey Street, with the exception of William who was living with his fathers’ brother’s family (uncle) in Wales, York-shire. The Bennett family continued to reside at 65 Abbey Street for well over the next 25 years, completing a family of 6. However, William is not on public record since the 1881 census until his marriage to Alice Mary Ellis at Sheffield in 1908. Maybe he continued living with his uncle and family or maybe he went his own way in life but, after his marriage he was resident at 13 Shirland Lane, Darnall, Sheffield and by 1911 had 2 children, William born 1908 and Edna born 1910.
