Edgar Bakewell was born in 1897 at Nottingham and was the son of John a frame work knitter and Sarah Bakewell née Fisher of 114 Blue Bell Hill, Nottingham. His father John was born in 1865 at Loughborough and his mother Sarah Fisher was born in 1864 at Hathern Leicestershire, they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Loughborough registration district, they went on to have following children, Gertrude b1889, Leonard b1891, Edith b1893 and Edgar b1897, they were all born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 142 Blue Bell Hill Road, Nottingham and are shown as John 46 yrs a frame work knitter, he is living with his wife Sarah 47 yrs and their children, Gerty 20 yrs a blouse machinist, Leonard 20 yrs a sanitary engineer, Edith 18 yrs a blouse machinist and Edgar 14 yrs a scholar.

Royal Engineers
Sapper Edgar Bakewell enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the Royal Engineers and died of pneumonia at Military Hospital at Bagthorpe, Nottingham on 3rd November 1918. He is buried at Nottingham Church Cemetery.
Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged) 5 November 1918: BAKEWELL, 3rd inst. of pneumonia, Sapper E Bakewell, age 21, son of John and Sarah Bakewell of 114 Blue Bell Hill Road. Interned Church Cemetery. Father, mother, sisters, brothers. Article published 6th November 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- BAKEWELL. - On the 3rd inst., of pneumonia, Sapper E. Bakewell, 114, Blue Bell-hill. Service at Morley Memorial Chapel, Blue Bell-hill, at 2 o'clock Friday [8th November 1918]. Internment at Church Cemetery 3 o'clock.
