He was the son of William and Annie Nixon and the brother of George, William, James, Olive and Amy Nixon. In 1911 they lived at 111 Vernon Road Kirkby in Ashfield.

Private Leonard Nixon, served with the 1st Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he died of wounds as a prisoner of war on 3rd June 1918. He is buried in Guise (La Desolation) French National Cemetery, Flavigny-le-Petit.
