George William Drinkwater born 1894 the son of Henry a stationary engine driver and Mary Drinkwater née McDonogh of Chilwell. Henry was born in 1864 at Chilwell, he died in 1908 aged 43 yrs the death was recorded at the Beeston Registration District, his mother Mary McDonogh was born in 1860 at Ilkeston, she died in 1900 aged 39 yrs, her death was recorded in the Basford Registration District, married on 31st December 1882 in Nottingham they went on to have the following children, James Henry b1883 Chilwell, Thomas b1884 Beeston, Lily b1887 Beeston, Fanny b1890 and George William b1894, Chilwell. Following the death of his mother Mary in 1900 his father remarried in 1907 to Elizabeth Blackwell. In 1911 following the death of both his parents he was living with his elder brother James Henry Drinkwater residing at 8 Meadow Road, Beeston, they are shown as James Henry 27 yrs a levers lace draughtsman, he is living with his wife Mary Ann (née Keen) Drinkwater 30 yrs and their children Lily 5yrs and James Sydney 4 yrs, George William is shown as a brother 16 yrs single a machine press worker.

Private George William Drinkwater enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Beeston, he was killed in actin on 1st July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Having no known grave his name s commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France
