John George was born in 1890 he was the son of Benjamin a hosiery assistant and Norah Walton née Rogers of Stoney Street Sutton in Ashfield. Benjamin was born in 1863 and Norah Rogers was born in 1861 both were born in Sutton in Ashfield, Nora died in 1906 aged 45 yrs they were married on 1st June 1883 at St Marys Church, Sutton in Ashfield and had 9 children. John George married Millicent Hutchinson (born 11th October 1889) in 1910 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they lived at 14 Bathwood Drive Sutton in Ashfield and had the following children, Jessie born 2nd March 1911and Kathleen Walton born 13th January 1914. In 1911 the family lived on Nesbitt Street Sutton in Ashfield. John George is 21 yrs and a hosiery overlooker, he is living with his wife Millicent 22 years and their child Jessie 1 month old. Commencing 21st October 1918 his wiodw was awarded a pension of 30 shillings and 8 pence a week.
He was a hosiery overlooker.

10/11th Bn Highland Light Infantry
Lance Corporal John George Walton enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield, he initially served with the service number 43980 in the Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was serving with the Highland Light Infantry when he was killed in action. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
