Donald Gray Fletcher was born 1896 in Radford. He was the third son of William Henry and Edith Fletcher. They had elevenchildren. William was a wood sawyer. In 1901 the family were living at No 9 Trafalgar Street in Radford. In 1911 the family had moved to Carnarvon Mount, Thorneywood Road, and Donald was an errand boy at a Box Manufacturers. At the time of his death his parents' address was Porchester Road, Nottingham (obit).

He enlisted at Nottingham (39178) Lincolnshire Regiment. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France. He was eligible for the Victory and British War medals.
The Carlton War Memorial gives his date of death as 15 April 1916 whereas other documents state 15 September 1916. Nottingham Post obituary (abridged), 21 October 1916: 'Fletcher. Killed in action September 15th 1916, Donald Gray Fletcher.' Nottingham Post obituary (abridged), 21 October 1916: 'Fletcher. Killed in action September 15th 1916, Private Donald G Fletcher, third son of Mr and Mrs WH Fletcher, Porchester Road, Nottingham, age 19.'
