Solomon Reid was the son of Joseph and Martha Reid (née Doughty). Both his parents were born in 1853 at East Leake. They were married in 1876 (Loughborough registration district) and had ten children, sadly four were to died in infancy or early childhood. Their surviving children, who were all born in East Leake, were: Joseph Samuel b1880, Thomas Arthur b1882, Mabel Jane b1884, Solomon b1888, Mary Lizzie b1890 and Susan b1893. In the 1911 census the family was living at The Green, East Leake, and shown as Joseph 58 yrs a frame work knitter, his wife Marhta 58 yrs and their children, Joseph Samuel 31 yrs a plaster miner, Solomon 23 yrs a general labourer and Susan 18 yrs a basket maker.
In the 1911 census he was a general labourer.

2nd Bn Grenadier Guards Lance Corporal Solomon Reid enlisted at Nottingham, residence East Leake. Solomon landed in France on 22nd January 1915. He was killed in action on 15th September 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial (Pier and Face 8D).
