William Jennings was born in 1896 in the Meadows, Nottingham and was the son of Harry a pig breeder and Kate Elizabeth Ann Jennings née Twigg of 23, Reigate Rd., Old Basford, Nottingham. His father Harry was born in 1865 in Radford and his mother Kate Elizabeth Ann Twigg was born in 1864 in Sneinton, they were married in 1894 in Nottingham and they went on to have 5 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were all born in the Meadows and were : Mabel b1895, William b1896 and Horace b1899. In the 1911 census the family are living at 136 Park Lane, Old Basford and are shown as Harry 46 yrs a pig breeder he is living with his wife Kate 47 yrs a frilling machinist and their children , Mabel 15 yrs a lace measurer, William 14 yrs a pawnbrokers youth and Horace 12 yrs a scholar.

15th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private William Jennings, enlisted at Nottingham and served with “Z” Company, 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, he was killed in action on 17th November 1916. He is buried in Faubourg D'Amiens Cemetery, Arras.
In memoriam published 17th November 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- JENNINGS. — In loving memory of our dear son and brother Will, killed in action November 17th, 1916.
