Frank Kirk was born in 1893 the son of William and Minnie Kirk née Howlett of Bramcote, Nottinghamshire and later Golden Valley, Risley, Derbyshire. William was born in 1867 at Bramcote, Minnie Howlett was born in 1866 at Noctorum, Ashby, married in 1890 at Nottingham, they had a daughter Kathleen Kirk born 1891 at Bramcote. In 1911 the family lived at Rose Cottage Bramcote, Nottinghamshire they were shown as William a coal carter Minnie 45 yrs and their children, Kathleen a dress maker and Frank a grocers assistant.

Corporal Frank Kirk attested on 1st December 1915 at Nottingham, giving his age as 23 yrs old and was a grocers assistant, he was posted to the reserves. He was mobilised for war on 9th February 1916 and reported to the Depot at Derby where he was posted to the 2/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He went to France on 26th February 1917 and was promoted to Lance Corporal on 19th May 1917 and later promoted to Corporal on 21st July 1917. He was killed in action on 21st March 1918 and having no known gave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial bay 7.
