Born 1893 at Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, the son of Thomas and Mary Judge. Thomas was a Railway Guard. By 1897 the family had moved to Nottinghamshire and in 1901 they were living at No 17 Cooper Street, Netherfield. They had a total of 7 children who all survived. By 1911 the family had moved to No 8 Main street, Carlton. Thomas was still working on the railways and so was his eldest son, Charles was working in the printing trade as was his younger brother of 17, Ena Avenue, Sneinton Dale, Nottingham.

Charles enlisted at Nottingham as Private 5137. His service number changed twice during his time in the army, 20009 and finally 242602 before he was killed in action. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial in the Pas de Calais region of France. He was eligible for the British and Victory medals
