James Wilfred Brailsford was born in 1896 in Nottingham and was the son of James (senior) a railway engine driver and Eliza Brailsford née Walton of 89, Glapton Road, Meadows, Nottingham. His father James was born in 1866 at Mansfield and his mother Eliza Walton was also born in 1866 at Sutton in Ashfield , they were married in 1889 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield Registration District, they had a further child a daughter Ida born 1898 also in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are lving at 89 Glapton Road, Meadwos, Nottingham and are shown as James 45 yrs a railway engine driver, he is living with his wife Eliza 45 yrs and their children James Wilfred 14 yrs a scholar and Ida 13 yrs a scholar.

2/5th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private James Wilfred Brailsford enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 2/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters, he died of sickness in France on 26th May 1918 and is buried at Tourgeville Military Cemetery (grave ref IV.A.9).
