George William Durose

George William Durose was born in 1897 the son of Joseph a coal miner hewer and Elizabeth Durose, née Oakton of 10 Mayfield Street, Kirkby in Ashfield. Joseph was born in 1854 at Kirkby, Elizabeth Oakton was born in 1866 at Church Greasley, married in 1880 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 14 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 10 Mayfield Street, Kirkby in Ashfield.

Private George William Durose enlisted at Hucknall, he was killed in action on 28th March 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Poizeres Memorial.
