Charles Stocks was the youngest son born to John and Mary Stocks (nee Justice) in 1889 at Clarborough, Retford, Notts. Charles had six siblings who were all born at Clarborough and were Clara born 1875, Lily born 1879, Ann born 1883, Hetty born 1885, Alice born 1887 and Ernest born 1888. The family for many years lived at 8 Gringley Terrace, Grove Lane, Retford.
