George Norman Ollerenshaw was born in 1891 and baptised on 1st April 1891 at Ripley Parish Church, son of Robert a coal miner and Mary Ann Ollerenshaw née Reynolds of 19 Derby Road, Shoulder of Mutton, Kirkby in Ashfield and the brother of Ellen, Annie Elizabeth, Robert, Beatrice May, William Henry and Grace Evelyn Ollerenshaw. Robert was born in 1860 at Crich, Derbyshire, Mary Ann Reynolds was born in 1871 at Bestwood, Nottingham, married in 1890 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 10 children, 3 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 1 Shoulder of Mutton Hill Kirkby in Ashfield.
He was a pit road repairer underground at Bentinck Colliery

Lance Corporal
7th Bn Leicestershire Regiment
Lance Corporal George Norman Ollerenshaw enlisted at Mansfield on 2nd September 1914, giving his age as 23 yrs and 165 days, he was a coal miner, posted to the 7th battalion Leicestershire Regiment he landed in France on 29th July 1915. Promoted to Lance Corporal on 4th January 1916 he was killed in action on 14th July 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
