He was the son of Mary Ann Jennings (formerly Lane) and the brother of Lilian Ann Lane. In 1911 they lived at 9 Palin Terrace Hyson Green Nottingham. Mary Jennings later moved to 7 Gamble Street Nottingham. He was the posthumous and only son of the late Charles Lane.
Attended All Saints Church Sunday School, a former choir boy and a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was a postman.

War obituary, All Saints Church News, June 1918: 'Charles Lane, 7 Gamble Street, Lance Corporal Royal Scots (Lewis Gun Section), killed in action April 12th [1918] age 26. Posthumous and only son of the late Charles Lane and Mrs Lane. An old choir boy and Sunday School scholar of All Saints. He won many prizes both at school (including one for 7 years complete attendance) and at the Post Office where he was employed. He was a keen member of the Men’s Bible Class.'
