Thomas Daykin was born in 1898 he was the son of the late William a brickmaker and Harriet Daykin née Hayes and the brother of Sarah, Florence and George Daykin. William was born in 1849 at Stapleford, he died in 1916 aged 69 yrs, Harriett Hayes was born in 1866 at Stapleford, they were married on 22nd December 1888 at St Mark's church, Nottingham, they had 6 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 51 Lot Street Stapleford Nottinghamshire. William is 60 yrs and is a brickmaker, he is living with his wife Harriett and their children including Thomas 13 yrs a scholar.

1/5th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Thomas Daykin enlisted at Ilkeston whilst residing at Stapleford, he served with the 1/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 20th October 1917 and is buried at Philosophe British Cemetery, Mazingarbe
