William Maddox Flint was born in 1899 at Ripley he was the son of Louis Maddox an engineering draughtsman and Eliza Ann Flint née Payne of "Kohanja" Clipstone Road, Mansfield. Family had also lived at Rock House, Pleasley Vale. Louis Maddox was born in 1867 at Westminster, London, Eliza Ann Payne was born in 1866 at Ripley, they were married in 1892 their marriage was recorded in the Greenwich registration district, they had 5 children, sadly 1 died in infancy. In 1911 the family are living at 98 Arkwright Street, Nottingham, Louis is 44 yrs and an engineering draughtsman, he is living with his wife Eliza Ann 45 yrs and their 4 children, Louis Edward 16 yrs, Lionel Herbert 14 yrs William Maddox 12 yrs and John Francis 9 yrs all were born in Ripley.
Attended Brunts School and was working in the wool business.

Private William Maddox Flint enlisted on 29th December 1916 aged 18 years and 219 days he was a pupil in the wool trade, He was made corporal on 1st April 1918 and embarked from Folkstone on 30th March 1918 disembarking the following day at Boulogne. Initially reported missing and it wasn't until March 1919 that the family were informed that he had been killed and buried by the Germans. He is buried at Le Grand Beaumart British Cemetery, Steenwerck , France.
His 2 brothers also served, Louis Edward survived and eventually became the leader of Mansfield Woodhouse UDC and Lionel Hubert who was killed on 14/10/1915. Attended Brunts School.
