He was the son of Richard and Eliza Whitworth and the brother of Hannah, Ethel, Doris Florence, Elsie May and Gertie Lowe Whitworth. In 1911 they lived at 21 Alderney Street Nottingham
In 1911 he was an errand boy for Hicks on Market Street Nottingham.

1/7th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private George Whitworth, served with the 1/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles), was killed in action on 1st July 1916. His death was not confirmed until 25th July 1917. He has no known grave, his name is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
