Joseph Eaton and Ann Hall married at Southwell in 1878. Joseph was a farm labourer and his first child was named Annie born the year following his marriage at Bilsthorpe, Notts. 1881 saw the family living at Farnsfield, Notts with a second child, George, who was born there in 1881. They stopped in Farnsfield and after having four more children, (Kate born 1884, Mary E 1886 (died in 1908 age 22), Joseph 1888 and Ethel 1890), they lived briefly in Langwith. Within three years Joseph had secured employment on the Welbeck estate, working as a groom and domestic gardener, living at Welbeck Kennels, Norton/Cuckney. Here they had three more children, David born 1893, John 1897 and Henry born 1900. By 1911, sons David and John were working in the estate kennels and Joseph junior was now an estate gamekeeper living in the Sedan Lodge, Norton. Joseph senior died in 1914 and after losing his life in France, Joseph junior had left a will, with his effects of £438 4s 8d being left to his widowed mother.

Beyond the basic details, few records appear available. He enlisted at Derby and was killed in action. He is buried in the Ration Farm Military Cemetery, La-Chapelle-D'armentieres, France
