Old Basford
Walter Burrows was born in 1889 at Old Basford and was the son of Samuel a coal miner and Sarah Ann Burrows née Horridge of 132 High Street, Old Basford, Nottingham. His father Samuel was born in 1864 in Suffolk and his mother Sarah Ann Horridge was born in 1865 at Watton, Leicestershire, they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have 8 children all born in Old Basford, Ernest b1886, William b1887, Walter b1889, Arthur b1891, Emma b1894, Annie b1897, Elsie b1900 and Herbert b1909. In the 1911 census the family are living at 132 High Street, Old Basford and are shown as Samuel 47 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 46 yrs and their children, Walter 22 yrs a coal miner, Arthur 20 yrs a coal miner, Emma 17 yrs a hosiery sorter, Annie 14 yrs an errand girl, Elsie 11 yrs and Herbert 2 yrs. Walter married his wife Jane Slack in 1916 in Nottingham and they lived at 47,Garden St, Radford, Nottingham.

10th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Walter Burrows enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Radford, he served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He died of wounds on 19th September 1918 at the 3rd Casualty Clearing Station, France and is buried at Thilloy Road Cemetery grave reference A.23
