Birth registered September quarter1897, East Retford. Son of Harry and Annie Snowdin, of 87, Moorgate, Retford, Notts (CWGC). Frank had two brothers and four older sisters. His younger brother, Harry, died 23 February 1931 aged 27.

Manchester Regiment
At first served with the Notts and Derbys Regiment with service number 4045 before transferring to the Manchester Regiment. His name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France
London Gazette 24 January 1917 and 3 March 1917, award of the DCM 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Although, twice wounded and in considerable pain, he continued fighting in a most gallant manner.' Inscription on family headstone, Ordsall All Hallows churchyard: 'Peace. Sacred to the memory of our dear sons, Harry Snowdin, died February 23rd 1931 aged 27 years and of Frank Snowdin, killed in action in France, March 21st 1918, aged 20. ‘Thy will be done.’ Also Harry Snowdin, father of the above, died December 15th (-) aged 84 years.'
