Frank Hill was born in 1883 and was the son of John Frank a lace draughtsman and his second wife Mary Hill née Hallam of 83 Gwthorne Street, New Basford, His father, John Frank Hill was born in 1845 at Nottingham, he died on 5 March 1908 aged 62 years. His mother, Mary Hallam was born in 1856 at Linby she died on 8 April 1922 aged 54. They were married in 1876 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district they had the following children, John b1877, Frances b1880, Jennie b1881, Frank b1883, James b1885, Louie b1887,Edith Mary b1891 and Evan Barrowcliffe b1893 In the 1911 census his widowed mother Mary is living at 83 Gawthorne Street, New Basford, Nottingham and is shown as Mary 55 yrs a widow she is living with her children, Frank 28 yrs a clerk at a chartered accountants, James 25 yrs a clerk in a sports outfitters, Edith May 20 yrs a clerk for a tailor and Evan Barrowcliffe 18 yrs a warehouseman
In the 1911 census he is a clerk for a chartered accountant

325th Siege Bty Royal Garrison Artillery
Gunner Frank Hill served with the 325th Seige Battery Royal Garrison artillery, he died on 21st November 1918 at the 12th general hospital, Rouen, France of influenza and bronchitis He is buried in St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen (grave ref S.2.Z.23).
Inscription on family gravestone, Basford Cemetery: 'In loving memory of John Frank Hill who died March 5th 1908 aged 62 years. With us was one, who calm and true, life’s highest purpose understood, and like his blessed Master knew the joy of doing good. Also Mary wife of the above who died April 8th 1922 aged 54 years. At rest. Also Evan son of the above who died March 5th 1890 aged 13 months. Also Gunner Frank Hill RGA who died November 21st 1918 aged 35 years. Buried in St Sever Cemetery Rouen.'
