George Henry Foster was born in 1890 at Caythorpe, he was baptised on 9th October 1900 at St Marys Church, Lowdham, he was the son of Thomas a bag hosier and Luna Ann Foster née Rayson of Caythorpe village. His father Thomas was born in 1851 at Caythorpe and his mother Luna Ann Rayson was born in 1859 at Lowdham, she died in 1909, they were married in 1881 their marriage was recorded in the Newark Registration area, they went on to have the following children, Garnet b1883, Stella b1885, Clara b1886, George Henry b1890, Arnold b1891 and Margaret b1898 all were born in Caythorpe. In the 1911 census the family are living at Caythorpe village and are shown as Thomas 60 yrs a widow a bag hosier, he is living with his children, Clara 25 yrs no occupation listed, George 20 yrs a jobbing gardener, Arnold 19 yrs a miller journeyman and Margaret 13 yrs a scholar.
He was a jobbing gardener in 1911.

Labour Corps
Private George Henry Foster enlisted at Hucknall whilst residing at Caythorpe he initially served with the service number 47777 in the Lincolnshire Regiment. He was serving with the 50th battalion Labour Corps when he was killed in action on 31st May 1917, he is buried at Bully-Grenay Communal Cemetery British Extension Grave Reference: II G 12
