George Martin Henderson was born in 1894 in Newark and was the son of George a builder/joiner and Catherine Henderson née Martin of 80 Rutland Road West Bridgford Nottingham. His father George was born in 1855 in Newark and his mother Catherine Martin was born in 1861 at Carlton, they were married in 1889 their marriage was registered in the Southwell Registration district, his parents had two further children, daughters Edith b1891 in Newark and Muriel born 1899 also in Newark.

13th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps
Rifleman George Martin Henderson, enlisted on 10th September 1914 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 21 yrs and 351 days. He served with “D” Company, 13th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps and landed in France with his battalion on 30th July 1915. He was killed in action on 14th November 1916 and is buried in Serre Road Cemetery No. 1, where he is commemorated by a special memorial.'D' Coy
