Albert Edward John Graveney was born on 10th October 1897 at Chelsea, London and was baptised on 7th November 1897 at St Lukes Church, Chelsea, London he was the son of the late Albert Graveney a machine hand and Harriet Graveney née Cashman of 15 Newton Street Newark-on-Trent. His father Albert was born in 1870 at Lambeth, London and his mother Harriett Cashman was born in 1872 also at Lambeth, they were married in 1896 at Lambeth and had two children Albert b1897 and John born 1900 both born in Chelsea. In the 1911 census the family are living at 15 Newton Street, Newark and are shown as Albert 41 yrs a machine hand, he is ;living with his wife Harriett 39 yrs and their children Albert 13 yrs a scholar and John 11 yrs a scholar.

2/8th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Sergeant Albert Edward John Graveney enlisted at Newark, he served as a Sergeant with the 2/8th battalion, Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 7th June 1917 and is buried in Metz-en-Couture Communal Cemetery British Extension grave reference 1.C.4
Article published 7th July 1917 in the Newark Advertiser :- Son of late Albert Graveney & Harriet Graveney, 15, Newton Street, Newark. Attended Barnby Road council school, also patrol leader of the 2nd Newark Scouts. Prior to enlistment in Oct. 1914 was employed by Messrs. Ransome & Co. as a pattern-maker. He went through the Irish Rebellion, where he was wounded and went to France in Feb. 1917.
