Samuel Hutchinson was born in 1883 at Hyson Green and was the son of Henry a frame work knitter and Elizabeth Hutchinson née Jackson of 24 Abbey Street, Ilkeston. His father Henry was born in 1858 at Loughborough and his mother Elizabeth Jackson was born in 1859 at Sneinton, Nottingham, they were married 1876 their marriage was recorded in the Radford registration district and went on to have the following children, Elizabeth b1878, John b1881, Samuel b1883, William b1888, Albert b1892, Edith b1894, May b1896 and Herbert b1899 all were born in Nottingham. Samuel married his wife Ethel Elliott born 11th October 1883 in 1903 at Nottingham, they lived at 14 Vernon Avenue, Basford, Nottingham they went on to have the following children, Ethel May born 19th May 1904, Cyril Arthur born 23rsd September 1908, William Alan Albert born 19th February 1912 and Edith Elizabeth born 10th December 1913. In the 1911 census they lived at 14 Vernon Avenue Basford Nottingham and are shown as Samuel Hutchinson 28 yrs a stocking maker, he is living with his wife Ethel 27 yrs a cigar maker and their children, Ethel May 6 yrs and Cyril Arthur 2 yrs of age.
He was a stocking maker.

2/5th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Samuel Hutchinson enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Basford, he served with the 2/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 26th August 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. Panel 99 to 102 and 162 to 162A.
