Arthur Lacey was born in 1900 at Newark and was the son of William Lacey a painter and decorator and Charlotte Lacey née Lawson of 1 Stanley Terrace, Beacon Hill, Newark. His father William was born in 1861 at Shelford and his mother Charlotte Lawson was born in 1867 at Collingham, they were married in 1883 at Newark and went on to have the following children, John Tom Howitt b1888, Leonard b1895, Mary Ann b1897, Arthur b1900 and Howitt b1902 all were born in Newark. In the 1911 census the family are living at 1 Stanley Terrace, Beacon Hill, Newark and are shown as William 50 yrs head of the family and married he is a painter and decorator, he is living with his children, John Tom Henry 23 yrs a painter and decorator, Leonard 16 yrs a revet boy, Mary Ann 14 yrs a house keeper, Arthur 11 yrs a scholar, and Howitt 9 yrs a scholar. His mother Charlotte is not at the family home on the night of the 1911 census and it has not been possible to find her on the 1911 census, although she did not died until later in life

Private Arthur Lacey enlisted at York and served with the 1/6th battalion Northumberland Fusliers, he died on 10th April 1918 and is buried at Ploegsteert Memorial, Hainaut, Belgium.
