Frederick Parker was born in 1886 at Newark and was the son of Henry a builders carter and Martha Parker née Smart of 194 Barnby Gate, Newark. His father Henry was born in 1853 at Newark and his mother Martha Smart was born in 1856 at Derby, they were married in 1879 their marriage was recorded in the Radford registration district, they went on to have 8 children, sadly three died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children all born in Newark were John b1880, George b1883, Fred b1886, Florence b1890, and Henry b1891. In the 1911 census the family are living at 194 Barnby Gate, Newark and are shown as Henry 58 yrs a builders carter, he is living with his wife Martha 55 yrs and their children, John 31 yrs a blacksmiths striker, George 28 yrs a general labourer, Fred 25 yrs a blacksmiths striker, Florence 21 yrs a sewing machinist and Henry 21 yrs an apprentice boiler riveter.

1/8th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Frederick Parker enlisted at Newark on 11th November 1914, he served with the 1/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He was wounded on 10th April 1915 and was killed in action on 30th July 1915 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
