Person Details
Battersea, London
Ernest Sidney Parrish was the third child of William and Emily Eliza Parrish, nee Whitaker, who married in Wandsworth on 25 December 1893. Ernest was born in 1898 in Battersea, just like his two older siblings, May, in 1896 and William in 1897. It is probable that the family moved to Worksop in 1898 as his mother is recorded as dying at Sheffield (hospital?) in the same year age 28. Two years later in 1900, William married Jane Powell in Retford and in 1901 they were living at Truemans Lodge, Clumber Park, Worksop. That is, all except Ernest who was living with his paternal family, his aunt Emma and husband and grandmother at 13 Orchard Place, Rogerstone, Monmouth. William and his new wife Jane, where still living at the same address in 1911, with William working as a house painter and glazier and now had the addition to the family of Elsie Mary born 1903 and Lois Annie in 1910. In 1907, Ernest’s grandmother died but in 1911 he was still living with his aunt Emma and husband now living at Brooklyn, Rogerstone, Monmouthshire. It appears that Ernest was never a long term resident of Worksop, but his father was probably instrumental in having his name recorded on the Worksop memorials.
