Matthew Hawksworth married his wife Ada Holman in Loughborough in 1900 they had the folowing children, Ellen born 29th June 1905, Violet born 30th August 1906, Edna May born 29th May 1910 and Vera born 18th September 1912. In 1911 they lived with Ada's brother George Hudson and his children at 50 Waterford Street Old Basford Nottingham. Following his death his widow was awarded a pension of 28 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 16th July 1917.

16th Bn Lancashire Fusiliers
Private Matthew Hawksworth enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 52254 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 23rd November 1916 whilst service with the 16th battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, he is buried at Waggon Road Cemetery Beaumont Hamel, France.
