The family lived at Fleet Street, Holbeach before moving to 28 Waterway Street, Meadows, Nottingham.

Pte. Sewell was called up for service and following trainimg he was drafted to France. The battalion was involved in heavy fighting during the Third Battle of Ypres, and Pte. Sewell was killed in action. His body was never recovered, but his name was commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
