Alfred Henry was born in 1893 in Bristol and was the son of Henry Chapman Hooker and Jessie Hooker, nee Hole of 84, Cedar Rd., Sherwood Rise, Nottingham His father, Henry was born in 1863 in Ramsgate, Kent and his mother Jessie Hole was born in 1863 in Dunster Somerset, they were married in Williton Somerset in 1891, they had a daughter Gertrude Alice b1896 in Manchester.

Pte. Alfred Henry Hooker, enlisted in Nottingham giving his place of birth as Bristol , he first served in the Royal Engineers but later transferred to “C” Company, 1st Battalion South Wales Borderers. He was killed in action on 10th November 1917, his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Somme, France.
Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 11th November 1918:- “HOOKER. – In loving memory of Pte. A. H. Hooker, missing, later reported killed, on November 11th, [sic] 1917.
