Ambrose Bacon was born in 1886 at Selston Common, Nottinghamshire and was the son of the late William a lino hawker and Emily Bacon née Elliott of The Meadows Nottingham. His father William was born in 1839 at St Martin's, London, his mother Emily Elliott was born in 1843 at Spalding, they were married in 1867 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born at Selston Common, Hannah Matilda b1869, Minne b1870 , Charles Henry b1872, William b1874, Parthenia b1875, Alice b1877, John James b1883 and Ambrose b1886.

Private Ambrose Bacon enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Worksop, he served with the 16th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He died on 17th August 1917 and is buried at St Wilfrid's churchyard, Wilford, Nottingham.
