Cecil Clark was born in 1899 the son of Samuel a colliery contractor and Elizabeth Clark née Gibson, and the brother of Charlie, Elsie, Sarah, Samuel and James Clark. In 1911 they lived at Lower Portland Selston Kirkby in Ashfield. Samuel was born in 1861 at Selston, Elizabeth Ann Gibson was born in 1863 at Pinxton, married in 1896 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district.
He was a coal miner at the Summit Colliery.

9th Bn Essex Regiment
Private Cecil Clark was called up for service on 20th April 1918 at Nottingham, he intially served with the service number 116569 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He later transferred to the Essex Regiment and on 19th September 1918 died of a gun shot wound to his chest at 20th casualty clearing station, France and is buried at Doingt Communal Cemetery Extension.
