He was the son of William and Hannah Mary Timms and the brother of William (died of wounds 7/3/1916), Dyson (killed in action 27/8/1918), Thomas (killed in action 30/3/1917) and Louisa Timms. In 1911 they lived at 16 Mayfield Street Kirkby in Ashfield.
He was a miner (hewer).
