Herbert Collinson was born in 1890 at Swinderby, Lincolnshire and was the son of the late Thomas a platelayer for the Midland Railways and Attie Eliza Collinson née Brown of Easthorpe Southwell. His father Thomas was born in 1863 at North Collingham, he died in 1910 at Southwell he was 47 yrs old and his mother Attie Eliza Brown was born in 1864 at South Scarle, she died in 1911 at Southwell aged 48 years, they were married on 30th September 1886 at Swinderby and went on to have the following children, George b1888 Swinderby, Herbert b1890 Swinderby, Thomas b1893 Swinderby and Walter b1901 Southwell. Herbert married his wife Ellen Ulyatt (born 1888 Normanton) in 1910 at Southwell, they lived at Normaton village and had a daughter Gladys May born 1907 at Morton. In the 1911 census the family are living at Normanton village and are shown as Hebert 21 yrs a millhand, he is living with his wife Ellen 23 yrs and their daughter Gladys May 4 yrs.

2nd Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Sergeant Herbert Collinson enlisted at Newark whilst residing at Southwell, he served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters, he died of wounds on 15th March 1918 and is buried at Achiet-Le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France.
