Francis Perkins was born in 1888 at Southwell and was the son of Charles a lace maker and Adelaide Peach Perkins née Hickling of Adams Yard, Westgate, Southwell. His father Charles was born in 1860 at Sneinton and his mother Adelaide Peach Hickling was born in 1861 at Hyson Green, they were married in 1880 at Nottingham and went on to have the following children, Francis b1888 Southwell, Horace Graham b 1893 Stapleford, Ophelia Adelaide b1898 Southwell, Sydney Charles b1900 Southwell and Charles Albert b1906 Long Eaton. Francis married his wife Nellie Squires in 1910 in Nottingham, they went on to have a son Francis Alonzo born 12th October 1910 at Ilkeston Junction, they lived at 7 Aston Terrace, Randall Street, Hyson Green. In the 1911 census Francis and his family are living at 20 Terrace Street, Hyson Green and is shown as being 23 yrs and a lace curtain maker, he is living with his wife Nellie 22 yrs and their son Francis Alonzo under 4 months of age. In the same 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at Adams Yard, Westgate, Southwell and are shown as Charles 51 yrs a lace maker, he is living with is wife Adelaide Peach 50 yrs and their children Horace Graham 18 yrs a threader, Ophelia Adelaide 13 yrs a scholar, Sydney Charles 11 yrs a scholar and Charles Albert 5 yrs Following his death his widow Nellie was awarded a pension of 28 shilling and 5 pence a week which commenced on 3rd June 1918.
He was a lace curtain maker.

17th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Francis Perkins enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Draycott, he served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 20th September 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
