Boots 'Comrades in Khaki', March 1916, 'Borough Road Budget': 'Gr WG Stening adds to his warm thanks [for parcels] the following observations: 'Unluckily I run across very few Boots Boys out here, though I often come into contact with Bombr. P Cattermole, and you can well understand that when we are together our conversation always turns on Warehouse 6. Well, our brigade has been out here almost 11 months now, and we have spent a good three-quarters of the time in action. Just now we are doing a stretch of two months' active work, but circumstances did not by any means prevent us from having an enjoyable time at Christmas and the New Year. the Germans remembered our days of festivity, and sent us many unwelcome souvenirs, but I may add we returned them with thanks. We took part in the Loos affair, and two of our majors, as well as some of our men, were awarded the DSO for their good work, and what a sight that advance was - one never to be forgotten.'
