Lowdham
William Bernard Peatman was born on 16th September 1891 at Lowdham, he was baptised on 1st November 1891 at St Mary's Church Lowdham and was the son of Zebedee a cowman on a farm and Sarah Ann Peatman née Litchfield of Gunthorpe Lane, Lowdham. His father Zebedee was born in 1858 at Westborough, Lincolnshire and his mother Sarah Ann Litchfield was born in 1860 at Lowdham, they were married in 1882 in Nottingham and went on to have 10 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their children listed on the 1901/1911 census are Fred b1898, Thomas b1900, Lucy b1902 and Clara b1909 all were born in Lowdham. In the 1911 census William has left the family home and is boarding at Kneeton Village, he is shown as 20 yrs of age, single and an under waggoner on a farm, he is living with Edward Willows 42 yrs a farm foreman. In the same 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at Gunthorpe Lane, Lowdham and are shown as Zebedee Peatman 53 yrs a cowman on a farm, he is living with his wife Sarah 51 yrs and their children, Frederick 13 yrs a scholar, Thomas 11 yrs a scholar, Lucy 9 yrs and Clara 2 yrs of age. William married his wife Ethel May Marshall (born 21st May 1891) in 1914, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they lived on Straws Lane, East Bridgford, they had the following children, Bernard William born 29th June 1916 and Florence May born 20th January 1918. Following his death his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week commencing 3rd June 1918.
He was a farm worker.

2/5th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private William Bernard Peatman enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at East Bridgford, he served with the 2/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 26th September 1917 and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
