Arnold Henry Grant was born in 1895 at Stamford and was baptised on 5th October 1901 at St Michaels Church, Stamford, Lincolnshire and was the son of John Archibald Duff Grant a painter and decorator and Eliza Ann Grant née Drake of 28 Harcourt Street, Newark. His father John Archibald Duff Grant was born in 1848 at Linlithgow, Scotland and his mother Eliza Ann Drake was born in 1855 in Rutland, they were married in 1881 their marriage was recorded in the Stamford Registration district. His father John had been married twice, his first wife was Elizabeth Adcock (born 1845 and died 1879 ) they were married in 1875 at Leicester and they had the following children Archibald b1875 Gainsborough, Alexander b1876 Stamford, Lillian b1876 Stamford and Jessie b1879 Stamford. He married his second wife Eliza Ann Drake in 1881 at Stamford, they went on to have the following children, Ernest Edwin b1882, Caroline Bingham b1884, Gertrude Ad b1888, John Cyril b1891, Florence Annie b1893, Arnold Henry b1895 and Bertha Rosetta b1898, all of whom were born at Stamford.

1/4th Bn Lincolnshire Regiment
Private Arnold Henry Grant, enlisted at Spalding on 13th October 1914 whilst residing at Newark, he served with the 1/4th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He landed in France on 18th August 1915 and was killed in action on 13th October 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
Article published 13th September 1916 in the Newark Advertiser :- Son of Mr & Mrs J.A.D. Grant, 28 Harcourt Street, Newark. Late of Stamford, Lincolnshire. A member of Christ Church and for three years was apprenticed to Mr Gratton. Enlisted on the 13th October 1914, in the Lincolnshires. Posted missing on the 13th October 1915. His last letter spoke of heavy rifle and shell fire by the Germans.
