He also had seven sisters; Emily Mary, born in 1894 at Hull, Elsie D., born 1896 at Hull, Grace W., born 1898 at Hull, Roseley, born 1900 also at Hull, Marion, born 1904 at Hull, Alice Ivy, born 1905 at Nottingham and Amy, born 1911 at Nottingham. The family lived at 8 Strickland Terrace, Hull before moving to 16 Argyle Street, Nottingham. Husband of Ellen Beal of 20 Hogarth Street, Sneinton, Nottingham

75th Field Coy Royal Engineers
Sapper Alfred Ernest Beal enlisted in Nottingham, and following training embarked for France, arriving on August 23, 1915. He was involved in fighting in the area north of Ypres when he was killed. He was buried at Essex Farm Cemetery. He is buried in Essex Farm Cemetery (grave ref 1.A.3).
Nottingham Post obituary (abridged) 28 July 1916: 'Sapper AE Beal (Royal Engineers), 20 Ilkeston Road, Nottingham, killed in action June 28th (sic) age 28.'
