He was the son of John and Elizabeth Ann Oakley and the brother of Beatrice Oakley. In 1911 they lived on Stoneyford Road Sutton in Ashfield. He was the husband of Florence Maud (née Slaney) Oakley of 250 Mansfield Road Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire.
