Pte Herbert Kaye Retford Times 23 March 1917 As already announced in our columns, Pte Herbert Kaye, Sherwood Foresters, son of Mr and Mrs George Kaye of Alma Road, Retford, has made the great sacrifice. This bright, intelligent young man was educated at the National School and would have attained his majority had he lived this week. He was employed at the Co-operative Stores when he joined the Forces in April 1916. He went to France in October last and died from gunshot wounds at Rouen Hospital on the 2nd inst. Much sympathy is felt with Mr and Mrs Kaye and family in their sad bereavement and they wish to thank friends for the many letters received. They have three other sons in France and one in Salonika, and another boy in training in Scotland. The other boy is working on munitions. This family is doing its duty nobly for the great cause
